Former Vogue Writer Joan Juliet Buck Claims Asma al-Assad ‘Duped’ Her [NY Mag] – Vogue took headlines last year for profiling Syria’s “first lady,” Asma al-Assad, for the magazine’s March 2011 “Power Issue.” Of course this became quite the ordeal after the Arab Spring occurred and what is going on currently in Syria. Now that the writer of the piece is no longer under contract with Vogue she tells all about the assignment. [LINK]

Bowl Style: Street Style Images from The Hollywood Bowl

What do you wear to the Hollywood Bowl, especially if you’re going to see Mel Brook’s acclaimed hit The Producers? I decided to pack my camera for my first trip to this incredible open-air venue not to immortalize my experience in pictures, but to catch people and what they wore.

Let me sidebar and just say an experience at the Hollywood Bowl is INCREDIBLE. They let you bring whatever you want to eat or drink, and if you go with great friends like I did you are sure to be in for a memorable night. Oh, and Terrace seats can be great seats, FYI.

The show itself was a knockout. The Producers transition from film to stage was seamless and wonderfully brought to life thanks in part to the leads Richard Kind and Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family. Their chemistry as two guys trying to cheat the system and bankroll a Broadway flop was on fire. The music and the laughs were non-stop. Dane Cook‘s surprise appearance as neo-nazi Franz Liebkind stole the show…even from knock-out Swed impersonator Rebecca Romijn!

Running into Jerry O’Connell, Jane Lynch, Rachel McAdams with her boyfriend Michael Sheen, only served to make this one of my absolute favorite nights in Los Angeles thus far.

Enjoy the fashion!

Question of the Week

If you were given a chance to start your career again, what would you do differently? Would you do anything the same?

I don’t know about you, but I would never change a thing. You never know what’s going to happen in life and some times I think about opportunities I may have passed by, but then I realize there’s no certainty that they would have amounted to anything.

Take life as it has been given to you.

Dear Cougar: Hesitant on Going for the Gold

Please leave your questions for Dear Cougar in the comment section below, or feel free to email me at

With the Summer Olympics around the corner this writer asks about mixing golds and silvers. Totally okay for Olympians, for the rest of us, not so much…

DEAR COUGAR: I love silver jewelry because I think gold is so old school. Typically I wear silver earrings, watch and of course my wedding ring & band.

I’m not that into accessories, but I’m trying to change that. Is it fashion suicide for me to wear my typical silver accessories and shoes with gold on them? For instance, I really love the look of Tory Burch Reva flats which just pop with the gold logo, but I can’t figure out if the shoes/accessories combination of gold/silver matters or not.

Dear Silver Fox:

No, I’m not calling you over the hill! This is a pretty common question, so I’m glad you brought it up to the benefit of everyone. I think of accessories for either sex the same way I think of shoes. Things must match! Wedding ring aside, if you’re going gold you should be gold head to toe.

Because you’re used to wearing silver once you actually “go gold” for a day I think you’ll find it a refreshing switch from your routine. And trust me, people will notice!

Since I’m a guy I try to apply the same logic of matching the tones of my brown belts with my brown shoes, and brown shoes don’t go with black suits. This is called “keeping it in the family.”

Keep your accessories (belts included) and shoes in the same tone families and you won’t ever hear a snicker from your fashion forward friends.

I hope that helps!
